UF coaches hit the road
The evaluation period began this week and Florida coaches visited several of their top targets Tuesday.
Offensive line coach Brad Davis and wide receivers coach Kerry Dixon II saw in-state offensive tackles William Barnes (Apopka, Fla.) and John Campbell (Orlando, Fla.). Both prospects visited UF in the spring and list the Gators among their top teams.
Offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier checked in on a pair of Florida commits — 3-star receiver commit Jalynn Williams (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and 2019 defensive lineman Jaquaze Sorrels (Largo, Fla.) — as well as 4-star safety Amari Burney from Clearwater, Fla. Burney plans to choose between Florida and Ohio State on June 1.
Linebackers coach Tim Skipper and running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider teamed up to see 3-star linebacker David Reese (Fort Pierce, Fla.), while defensive line coach Chris Rumph paid visits to 4-star WR Marquez Ezzard (Stockbridge, Ga.), 3-star LB Michael Harris (Tucker, Ga.) and 3-star DT Darnell Jefferies (Covington, Ga.).
Defensive coordinator Randy Shannon was in Tennessee visiting 4-star defensive tackle Brant Lawless (Nashville) and 3-star defensive end Jordan Davis, an Alabama commit from Memphis.
Secondary coach Corey Bell paid a visit to Notre Dame WR commit Kevin Austin (Pompano Beach, Fla.) while assistant Greg Nord traveled to Naples, Fla., for 3-star tight end George Takacs.
4-star DT visits Gators
Florida extended an offer in March to Alim McNeill, a 4-star defensive tackle from Raleigh, N.C. In return, McNeill made his way to the Sunshine State during his spring break to check out the Gators last week.
“Everything was nice,” McNeill told SEC Country. “It was my first time visiting. I met all the coaches and we toured the facilities and academic center. It was nice down there.”
McNeill also took a trip to FSU while in Florida. The 6-foot-2, 272-pound lineman holds offers from more than two dozen schools, including Michigan, South Carolina and Tennessee.
McNeill, who is ranked the nation’s No. 21 prospect at this position in the 247Sports Composite, plans to make his decision in December.
